April 5th, 2024: Thoughts About Children
A new life is always precious, and we've felt that deeply since our grandson was born eight months ago. Watching him grow daily is like witnessing a ongoing miracle. He's an engaging little fellow with a mind of his own, safe and secure thanks to the love and attention around him.
Children are indeed gifts from God. It's heartbreaking to see them abused and neglected. In my line of work, it's not just talk; we strive to understand and provide care and support for them and their parents. Sometimes, adoption is a better option for children whose parents can't be there for them.
A child's view of the world is profoundly shaped by feeling loved and protected. Without that, there's much more to worry about: low self-esteem, self-hatred, questions of worth. As a young man who ended up on the streets once told me, "Emotionally, it's safer to be on the street than at home." It's a poignant commentary on his life.
Mark 9:36-37
He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
