Feb 22nd, 2024: Some Unrelated Thoughts

Today's writing will cover a variety of unrelated topics, reflecting the way my mind sometimes jumps around.

Recently, I had to contact Netflix regarding a charge issue after canceling my Airbnb account in Edmonton. While waiting on hold for customer service, I found it amusing (albeit ironic) to listen to a song with the opening line, "I don't care about your money." It's a stark reminder of the indifferent and insensitive approach prevalent in customer service today. It seems attention to detail is becoming increasingly rare.

The casual use of Jesus' name in vain is a phenomenon worth pondering. Unlike other religious leaders, Jesus is more than just a figurehead; he is the Son of God. Perhaps invoking his name in vain reflects a deeper emptiness within us, highlighting our disregard for someone who embodies God's love and salvation.

Why do we hesitate to address the destructive behaviors of those around us? Rather than engaging in honest, Godly conversations about their actions, we tiptoe around, afraid of causing offense. But avoiding truth only perpetuates the cycle of harm, hindering our ability to genuinely help others. Being nice is a disguise for being indifferent sometimes.

“He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
