July 13th, 2023: The Brokenhearted

"The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18

In recent months, I have encountered several heart-wrenching stories of brokenness.

One such story revolves around a couple whose first son is in a coma after a drowning incident. Another involves a friend's wife who has been diagnosed with a serious form of cancer, enduring pain and loss of balance.

These dear friends of mine are truly crushed in spirit. It's often difficult to find the right words to console someone in such a situation. My deepest prayer for them is that they may feel the comforting presence of God surrounding them.

The young mother clings to the hope that her son will make a full recovery. She acknowledges that they are not alone, yet some nights are still filled with endless darkness. My friend had envisioned a joyful retirement with his beloved wife. The thought of losing her overwhelms him, and he finds solace in the presence of others because being alone is particularly challenging. Both individuals hold onto their faith, trusting that God walks alongside them. Their love for their cherished ones causes them immense anguish.

At times, it is within the depths of our shattered spirits that we discover the true essence of faith. Through our broken hearts, we begin to understand the heartbeat of God. We find peace in accepting His promises and shedding tears because of the depth of our love.
