Jan 5th, 2023: More Than Just A Foot Ball Game
I love football. It is more than just a physical game. People who don't understand the game think it is about a whole bunch of huge men in tight, hitting each other. It is a game of strategy, awareness, commitment, discipline, teamwork, and more.
However, this past Monday, my heart dropped as a young player of the Buffalo Bills fell backward and passed out after getting up from hitting a receiver from Cincinnati. We only learned later he suffered from a rare form of cardiac arrest. Players from both teams were in shock, and suddenly the game was not that all important.
Watching various video clips of this incident reminds me that there is still much good within us. The main concern for everyone was the well-being of Damar Hamlin. Players from both teams knelt in different circles and prayed. Some people were lost for words. Others felt utterly helpless. Yet, God's presence was evident that night.
"And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." – Ephesians 4:32
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves." – Philippians 2:3
