April 4th, 2024: Faith Journey
I recently had a conversation with a friend from a religious background about our children and how their faith in God can differ from ours. It's not uncommon, given the societal environment and the pressures our kids face in understanding their faith. For some families, it can be quite stressful and challenging.
"Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight." - Psalm 119:35
I never assume that faith in God is something one inherits. While being raised in the Christian faith can provide benefits, it doesn't negate the need for a personal choice regarding our relationship with Jesus and how that manifests in our lives. It's a daily journey for many of us. Several of my university friends who once identified as Christians no longer do so; life of faith is indeed an enduring journey.
A few years back, I received a call from a friend who had left her husband for another man, expressing that her belief in God no longer resonated with her. She disclosed that she had chosen to embrace humanism instead. It was a surprising and somewhat intense conversation. I silently pondered whether one can truly be a humanist without being a Christian.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." - Philippians 4:6
