April 23rd, 2024: A Silent Conversation
Once, a young man confided in me, expressing that he believed it might have been easier if his mother had passed away rather than living on the streets due to her drug addiction. Though he never knew her, stories circulated about her departure from her hometown to the city in pursuit of her addiction. Despite the challenges, he asked if I could help locate her, as she was reportedly in my city.
With the assistance of friends in law enforcement, I managed to find her. However, our reunion was brief, as shortly after, she succumbed to an overdose. The news of her passing reached me the day before our scheduled meeting. When I met with the young man, he received the news just moments before our encounter. In silence, we shared our sorrow, sitting together for a long while.
Recently, I encountered him working at a gas station, tucked inside the convenience store. During our brief conversation, he reflected on our earlier encounter, expressing that it was one of his most profound experiences of feeling acknowledged and understood.
In that moment, as we conversed, my spirit and heart were tranquil in the presence of God. I found myself praying fervently for him, sensing a silent yet profound three-way conversation taking place.
