April 18th, 2024: Understanding Disappointment

Disappointment often takes a toll on our spiritual and emotional well-being, a common experience stemming from our relational nature. Expectations and hopes in relationships set the stage for disappointment when unmet. Betrayal deepens this feeling, rupturing trust and leaving us adrift in confusion and emotional turmoil. For some, this leads to depression, while others grapple with intense anger.

Forgiveness emerges as the antidote to disappointment. Without it, we remain trapped in a cycle of anger towards others and ourselves. Yet, forgiveness is not something we can manufacture ; it depends on our ability to receive God's grace and mercy and then extend that to others. Rejecting the reality of God's redemption perpetuates a culture lacking in compassion and mercy.

Freedom will be our experience. Disappointment will always be there but it will not dictate how we feel and live.

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." - Ephesians 4:32
