April 14th, 2024: Knowledge and Understanding

"The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered." - Proverbs 17:27

What kinds of knowledge do we need so we can be wise and careful with our words? Our knowledge of God's grace should slow us down in making judgments against others. Our knowledge of mercy should stop us from being self-righteous in our interactions with others. Our knowledge of forgiveness should shape us into being forgiving people.
We should know that our words are the true reflection of the condition of our hearts. Words can kill people emotionally and spiritually.

What understanding are we talking about? We need to understand the broken heart that God has for the world. The more understanding we have, the more suffering we will need to embrace. It is not academic. It is a transforming experience because we allow ourselves to identify with the heart of God. Our understanding will not give us the right to make judgments. It will empower us to exercise a godly sense of judgment. We don't get angry or even. We simply learn the new tranquility in serving others.
