March 11th, 2024: Seeing Through Darkness

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." - Psalm 119:105

We often take the availability of electricity for granted in many ways in our parts of the world. We might experience rotational blackouts once in a while in the winter. That is nothing compared to what has been going on in many other parts of our world.

When we were kids, it was not a good feeling to have a blackout during curfews while hearing gunshots or explosions. Not knowing what might happen next in darkness is very disconcerting.

We live in a time when there are many explosions: wars between nations, wars because of poverty, wars because of gender issues, wars caused by fears and unknowns, wars because of restrictions due to health concerns... The way our news agencies have conducted themselves, many of us feel like we are in the dark because we don't trust news folks anymore. In the midst of that, some of our governments are waging war against God. We have also entered a new era dominated by political power submitting themselves to spiritual darkness.

What does it mean to have God's word as a lamp to our feet? It begins with daily reflection on what He tells us via His word. It is also about having a daily conversation with God about our next steps. We will be able to see life events differently. We don't have to be afraid. We will be confident facing the darkness of this world, knowing that we will be able to see beyond its veil.
