Feb 11th, 2024: Caring for The Sick & Dying

Caring for a sick individual often proves more demanding than we initially realize. It reveals our limitations in patience and prompts feelings of guilt for needing personal time. As we navigate the challenges of assisting the helpless, we confront our own vulnerabilities, a humbling lesson in giving.

During such times, we come to appreciate the significance of family and community support. There's no shame in seeking assistance when needed. Unfortunately, the breakdown of familial units and diminishing community presence contribute to the isolation felt by the sick and dying and their families. I've witnessed elderly individuals enduring their final moments alone.

Technology can never substitute human touch and presence. Our mere presence offers solace, and our touch provides reassurance to those in need. Often, I find that words are unnecessary during these visits; there's a profound connection in these silent moments. It feels as though we're bridging the gap between the departing and the divine, listening to their hearts while embracing the heart of God.

I encourage you to reach out to those in need and recognize the transformative power of your presence. When we are there, remarkable things can unfold with the grace of God.

"All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us." - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
