Jan 6th, 2024: Homelessness

An increasing number of homeless people have been congregating around the downtown cores of many cities. As more office workers have transitioned to remote work, homeless individuals have found these areas to be a place they can call "home."

Some knowledgeable individuals once told me that as long as we cherish our capitalism, we must learn to tolerate homelessness in our cities. There are numerous reasons contributing to homelessness: poverty, mental health issues, lack of affordable housing, addiction, severe life circumstances, and more. These factors are interconnected, rendering solutions more complex.

Can we truly eradicate homelessness? Many years ago, numerous people began discussing their "homeless no more" vision for their cities. Simply relocating homeless individuals from one area to another represents an unthoughtful approach to the problems. Homelessness serves as a reminder of what transpires within humanity when greed and selfishness overshadow compassion and sacrifices.

Perhaps God has also experienced a form of homelessness among us as we witness the events of our time. We have become severely self-absorbed, our spiritual well-being teeters on the brink of bankruptcy, and we can no longer hear and face the truth.

"Rescue the weak and homeless from the powerful hands of heartless people." - Psalm 82:4

"Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God." - Proverbs 14:31
