Jan 17th, 2024: Taming Our Tongues

Have you ever encountered people who have the gift of stating the obvious? Sometimes, we can be perturbed by this kind of interaction because they most likely express complaints and offer no help in the situation we are facing.

I have to keep my mouth shut at times. Opening my mouth at that moment would be ungodly, even though it is tempting. They make things more challenging when they seem to think they are the only ones who suffer from the unexpected inconvenience.

Godliness starts with "why" sometimes. Why do we say, do, or feel anything about people and their behaviors? The sooner we think we have the right, the less reflection we have in dealing with the situation. Sometimes godliness starts with a reminder that God is in charge, and we don't have to get even.

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” - Proverbs 15:1

“The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction. Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” - Proverbs 16:23-24
