Dec 11th, 2023: Names of Jesus

"For a child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. And the dominion will be on his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His dominion will grow continually, and to peace there will be no end on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and sustain it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this." - Isaiah 9:6-7

Names carry power, responsibility, and blessings. Jesus has many names.

Wonderful Counselor: He will help us to see who we are in God. He will ask questions and guide us to the answers we are looking for. He is engaging in our affairs, and He understands our struggles with knowing.

Mighty God: This is a hard concept for many of us. He is fully God, and He walked the surface of the earth as a man. He revealed His power during His years on earth, and the most significant power of all is the power of the resurrection.

Everlasting Father: We live in a time where the majority of people are more interested in the here and now. Everlasting is a foreign concept to many of us. After all, the great majority of married couples are separated after 5 years. Jesus's relationship with us is everlasting. We rest in God when that happens.

Prince of Peace: Most of us are fighting a war against ourselves. We live in between hope and despair, knowing and not knowing, lie and truth, courage and cowardice, beauty and destruction... We have no peace within us. How can we pursue peace with one another? The Peace that Jesus brings helps us to be reconciled with God and to receive ourselves fully.
