Nov 6th, 2023: Dishonor Others

"Love does not dishonor others; it is not self-seeking, not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs." - 1 Corinthians 13:5

Understanding how we can dishonor others is crucial. I learned that when working with international students who come from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Respecting their commitments is essential, and we aim to create an environment where students can freely share their faiths and cultures. For over two years, I met weekly with a student from Libya, where we exchanged insights from the Quran and the Bible. While we didn't always agree, our interactions were meaningful.

It's essential to address why some individuals with specific views on human sexuality struggle to accept the idea that there are two genders: men and women. People should have the freedom to define themselves according to their choices, but it's equally important to respect differences without imposing one's beliefs on others. Gender identity is a personal expression, and my personal choice is to define my sexuality based on scientifically supported facts.

When we dishonor one another, we undermine fundamental moral commitments. Concepts of right and wrong become blurred, and our value systems become self-serving. This leads to increased judgment and intolerance towards others. Stepping away from moral principles, such as the Ten Commandments, can contribute to a society where self-centered behaviours prevail, and individualism becomes the only commandment.
