Nov 19th, 2023: Aloneness Part 2

Why do we feel alone?

Lack of Connection: This is felt in various settings. Some experience it in church, while others feel it within their families or marriages. Different perspectives, values, and life experiences can cause this feeling.

Isolation: Being separated from friends, family, or a beloved community is common. Many new immigrants experience this. Lost of personal safety is common.

Emotional Distance or Separation: When there's a breakdown in emotional intimacy or trust with those close to us, it can create a sense of loneliness even in their presence.

Self-Perception: False and negative self-perception or feelings of inadequacy might lead us to believe that others don't understand or relate to us, intensifying feelings of isolation.

Changes in Life: Major life changes such as divorce, loss of a loved one, retirement, or transitioning to a new phase of life can trigger feelings of loneliness as our social dynamics shift.

Mental Health Struggles: Conditions like depression, anxiety, or social anxiety can contribute to feelings of isolation, making it challenging to connect with others.

Technology and Social Media Impact: Excessive use of social media or technology, despite fostering digital connections, can exacerbate feelings of loneliness due to shallow interactions or unrealistic comparisons.

Cultural or Societal Challenges: Certain cultural norms or societal pressures might lead to a sense of alienation if one feels they don't fit within established social frameworks.
