Nov 18th, 2023: Aloneness

Companionship is important in life. Some people are fortunate to have a marriage that provides that. Some people have friends who transcend time and space. Some have children who bring them well-being in their later years. Some have pets that bring them comfort. We know that we are not meant to be alone.

Some desperate people would do anything to have someone in their life and end up making some serious mistakes. Loneliness is terrifying, and we might not be able to see things clearly. Sometimes, we compromise our values. Sometimes, we damage other relationships just to fulfill our needs.

I have seen elderly people who suffer from loneliness in nursing homes. Children are nowhere to be seen. Maybe loneliness has become the end result of selfishness. We have allowed busyness to overtake our sense of decency in taking care of others.

As I am writing this, I am also aware of how alone I am in the way I see life. Well, that will be for another day's pondering.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." - Deuteronomy 31:6
