Nov 15th, 2023: A New Addiction

This image says it all. The real, serious addiction today is social media addiction. Many people have lost their sense of well-being because of it. Others find themselves nurturing a life of discontentment and envy. It has also been a major source of misinformation and deception. Our pursuit of convenience has become a new form of slavery. The lack of knowledge about who we are has driven us further into the journey of confusion. Our sense of wellness is compromised, and our awareness of the world has been misguided.

Maybe boredom has much to do with this form of addiction. When we are so self-preoccupied, boredom tends to be the outcome. We begin to wonder what is missing in our lives instead of being thankful for who we are and what we have. For some people, boredom can lead to discontentment and eventually anger. Our view will be reduced to our limited perceptions of how unhappy we are.

Much of what we see and listen to on social media has also contaminated our hearts and minds. It is rather disconcerting to see how antisocial some people have become because of their addiction to social media. Facebook has become the hub of many faceless friends.

"Through you we push back our enemies;
 through your name we trample our foes.
I put no trust in my bow,
 my sword does not bring me victory;
 but you give us victory over our enemies,
 you put our adversaries to shame." - Psalm 44:5-7
