Nov 13th, 2023: Our Final Victory?

I watched the Grey Cup Semi-final last Saturday, a one-game showdown where the better team would secure the final two seats to the Grey Cup. In sports, the better player often wins, but life doesn't always follow the same script. I've witnessed great friends endure profound losses despite being devout and loving.

In this world, good people don't always come out on top. Perhaps our understanding of victory needs a shift. What does it mean for Christians to lead a victorious life?

We must grasp that the ultimate outcome was settled by Jesus's death and resurrection. We exist in the interim, grappling with whether we have the faith to claim that victory while awaiting His return.

The true battle lies in contending with our troublesome flesh. Despite yearning for what displeases God and chasing temporary pleasures, we often ignore God's play calls and improvise without proper preparation, risking fumbles and interceptions that hinder progress.

Our indifference to evil poses a real challenge. Some scholars argue that denying the moral foundation, often defined by the Ten Commandments, could erode the collective benefits of democracy. Winning loses its significance when we're willing to celebrate losing, creating a skewed way of living where losers become winners.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33
