Dec 1st, 2023: Christ and Christmas

The forthcoming December holiday might undergo a name change soon. The Canadian Human Rights Commission cited the celebration as evidence of Canada's religious intolerance rooted in colonialism. This might prompt Christians to reconsider how they observe the holiday.

It's worth pondering whether abandoning the term "Christmas" isn't such a bad idea, considering how commercialized and detached from its religious significance the occasion has become. The Commission's statement urges us all to reflect on the true essence of Christmas, where the presence of Christ often seems absent.

However, debating the use of "colonialist religious intolerance" as the sole reason for a name change may not be entirely necessary. While we celebrate diversity and inclusivity, it's crucial not to dismiss our history. Embracing our past helps shape a more meaningful future. Have you ever contemplated life without the pioneering spirit that led to the discovery of new lands? I'm grateful for their determination and believe in learning from their past missteps.
