Oct 6th, 2023: Overcoming People

It is always a treat to see a come-from-behind win in a football game. It is intense, stressful, and exhilarating all at the same time. The leading team suddenly rattles and panics as the other team starts to even the scores. Suddenly, they become spectators of their own demise.

Christians are now the team that is behind in this world. In all accounts, we have been beaten badly in the first three quarters. The only way to overcome this is to become overcomers.

John 1:5 – "The Light Overcomes The Darkness."

Jesus is that Light. Many churches have aligned themselves with the ways of this world. We cannot overcome darkness by being a part of it. We need to remain faithful to Jesus so that His light can be seen through us. It will provide both certainty and hope.

1 John 5:4 – "Our Faith Has Overcome The World."

We won't overcome the world by embracing its own power and wicked ways. We do that by maintaining our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus. That faith tells us that we have overcome the world."

Romans 12:21 – "Overcome Evil With Good."

 God is the author of all goodness. We will not be able to overcome evil with nothing. To be good is to be imitators of God. Seeking mercy and justice is the foundation of that goodness. Without mercy, justice will be scary. Without justice, mercy has no meaning.
