Oct 4th, 2023: Dealing with Fears

I have met many people in my line of work whose lives are dominated by fears. Some are managing better than others. However, the price of dealing with fears is high when it comes to our mental, physical, and spiritual health. Why do we live in fear?

Trauma is one of the reasons. Not all of us have the language for traumatic experiences, and yet it impacts all of us. It can disable us completely. PTSD sufferers are capable people who cannot unlock a significant time or event from their minds.

The future is one big uncertainty. What will the future be like for our children and grandchildren? That has been a conversation among many of us. Many people are not sure whether they have saved enough to retire.

Social media exposure is another one. The medium that was supposed to bring us together has now become the source of paranoia. People talk about protecting their privacy more than ever before. They are afraid of being tracked and exploited.

Sickness is an ongoing fear. It knows no generational gap. People might deal with their fear of sickness by engaging in exercise or changing their lifestyles. However, that does not take away the fact that sickness is unwelcome.

When we consider all of our fears, we might want to ask why they exist. Maybe they all stem from our separation from God. It has brought about fears in our relationship with God and our relationships with one another.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6
