Oct 2nd, 2023: The Condition of Our Heart

A friend of mine has to undergo a variety of scanning tests for his heart. He has been suffering from a weak heart for a while now. It is time for the next major decision. He was apprehensive but glad at the same time. Finally, something is being done about it.

If we were to scan our hearts spiritually, what would we see?

A Meditative Heart? A heart that longs for a deeper connection with God.

An Introspective Heart? A heart that goes through a period of self-examination in thoughts and feelings.

A Prayerful Heart? A heart that carries the burden and the suffering of many others with God.

A Forgiving Heart? A heart that seeks forgiveness for others so it can experience God's forgiveness more fully.

A Peaceful Heart? A heart that knows the meaning of resting in hope and trusting in faith while facing various external turmoil.

A Tired Heart? A heart that can no longer feel love and love.

An Angry Heart? A heart that is full of unresolved disappointment. It has no idea how to trust and what to hope for.

An Indifferent Heart? A heart that has no capacity left to discern how it feels. It is numb.

So what is the description of your heart? Does it need God's everlasting care?

Psalm 51:10-12: "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit" (NRSV).
