Sept 28th, 2023: Work vs Fantasies

"Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies have no sense." - Proverbs 12:11

Many people are chasing fantasies these days, including many who consider themselves "woke." Somehow, we think we have the freedom to destroy instead of building, to talk about climate change instead of engaging in meaningful scientific discoveries for cheaper and cleaner energy, to discuss poverty without appreciating the privilege we have, and to address racism by creating a new form of racism.

Working the land means making a direct contribution to the well-being of others by embracing the gifts of God in His creation. We are not alleviating world poverty or improving air and water quality by flying around the world and spraying paint on beautiful works of art from history.

No one has helped me appreciate the land more than my friends who are farmers. They have to deal with all the hardships of working the land. They also experience the joy of abundance from that very same land. Their commitment is straightforward and simple: working hard and growing food for other people. "Woke" individuals will never understand that. They believe the world will improve due to their misguided complaints and destructive behaviors. Perhaps they should learn how to work instead of being "woke."
