July 26th, 2023: Restlessness

Airports are bustling with activity these days, as people eagerly embark on journeys to experience life, reunite with family, and take a much-needed break from the demands of work. It's almost as if Covid-19 has left no trace, and the desire to explore the world has returned stronger than ever. However, one thing that's hard to ignore is the rising cost of everything, which affects us all.

During my trip back home from Montreal, I had the pleasure of sitting next to a young couple from Germany. They have made the bold decision to work in a hybrid manner and travel the world. Their sentiment revolves around not taking the freedom to move around for granted, seizing the opportunity to explore as much of the world as they can. Nevertheless, it's concerning to consider the increasing number of legislations our governments have implemented to control people's lives and limit the basic freedoms that we used to enjoy in our democracy.

Perhaps the restlessness people feel is a consequence of the belief that we are not in control of our own destinies. The absence of faith can leave us feeling oppressed, manipulated, and at the mercy of those in power, contributing to this sense of restlessness. Finding peace amidst such circumstances becomes a challenge.

People travel to gain new experiences and see the world through different lenses, broadening their understanding and perspectives. Similarly, embracing faith in God can be seen as a form of spiritual travel, allowing us to appreciate His creation with a renewed understanding and perspective. Moreover, this spiritual journey can lead to a deeper appreciation of our inner world, helping us find tranquility even amid restlessness.

"My people have become lost sheep;
Their shepherds have led them astray.
They have made them turn aside on the mountains;
They have gone along from mountain to hill
And have forgotten their resting place." - Jeremiah 50:6
