July 10th, 2023: Truth vs Darkness

"If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth." - 1 John 1:6)

During a church service, I listened to a Lutheran minister's prayer and found myself questioning her reference to God as a "non-binary being." This perspective is not unique to her, as many churches today have embraced a version of God that aligns with our own human conditions.

But what does it mean to walk in darkness? The real challenge lies in our inability to recognize that we are even in darkness. We can become so accustomed to living without light that we fail to realize how much we have missed and remain unaware of what lies in front of us. Darkness can become comfortable if we choose that way of life.

In this state, we no longer seek truth because we have arrogantly assumed that we hold the ultimate power to dictate our lives. We reject God's commandments and find solace in the idea that our identity is solely defined by ourselves. As a result, self-perception and self-deception intertwine, providing mutual reinforcement. When truth is absent, darkness will inevitably continue to dominate our lives.
