May 9th, 2023: We Won't Be Orphans

"I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you." - John 14: 18

Christians live as if God has decided to leave us alone while knowing the Bible tells us the opposite. How do we know we live our lives like orphans?

Excessiveness: we have lost the ability to live our lives in balance. We either overeat or don't eat at all. We are either workaholics or indifferent towards having a job. We are obsessed with our looks or don't really care about taking care of ourselves. We don't know what it means to live in the world and not to come of it. We become part of the world, yet we do not know how to live in it.

Inattentiveness: orphans have difficulty paying attention to their surroundings and instructions. Christians might talk about the Bible but have become inattentive to what it has to say. We are indifferent toward the teaching of good and evil. Christians have failed to participate in what God is doing because we are indifferent to what God is about. We pay more attention to what the world has to say.

Are we ready when God comes to us?
