April 17th, 2023: Understanding God While Needing To Be Fast

The electric bike has become a popular mode of transportation in many cities. Some of them can travel at a pretty fast speed. Bike paths very soon will need more traffic control and by-laws. Our need for speed is alive and well regardless of what we drive or ride.

Being fast is critical in our ways of life. We prefer faster cell phones, computers, cars, and more. Our need to be faster has tested our patience. We become agitated when the lineup does not move at our expected speed.

Being fast defines our need for comfort. We want to take direct flights while traveling because having connections can be a pain. We use fast chargers because it is uncomfortable without a cell phone. We want cookware that can prepare food quickly.

Being fast constitutes values. Many of us have struggled with the speed of service when we fly, rent a car, or have a meal in a restaurant after things returned to normalcy. Somehow everything seems to take a lot more time to do. We conclude that the service has deteriorated.

We might have the same reaction toward God in dealing with unanswered prayers. We like to see God get in it quickly. We struggle when that does not happen. We want God to reveal His plan for us as soon as possible. We fail to understand that He has already done so in the Scripture and is waiting for us to come on board.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." - Romans 12: 1-2
