March 1st, 2023: Humanity and God
Sometimes I wonder what makes us human. We know that we have intellectual capabilities that can innovate and adapt. For example, we have taken AI to a level we could hardly imagine 40 years ago. A philosopher recently boasted we no longer need redemption from God. We can figure out our human struggles and manipulate ourselves with algorithms. We can redeem ourselves by believing that we can know who we are independently from God.
I am not sure AI can have a deeper insight into my spiritual struggles than I can. We cannot always understand our interactions with God within the domain of science. No language can fully describe the yearning for God within our hearts. Sometimes we have convictions about what we need to do without the ability to articulate them fully. God's messages can be so convincing in our minds. Yet, we fail to put them into words at times.
Our willingness to welcome the reality of redemption has little to do with our capability. It has much to do with our humility. Our lack of humility confirms to us the truth of the original sin. It is not the first time that some smart yet spiritually naive human being proclaims that we don't need God and can manage just fine on our own. We are heading toward human self-destruction if we continue to exclude God in our actions.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." - Hebrews 4: 12
