Oct 12th, 2022: Power of Words
Nothing can be more amusing than watching our kids learn how to talk. Every single new word is an excitement. Children will copy their parents in the art of speaking. They have the uncanny ability to mimic us. Recently, I was excited when a little girl was able to pronounce my name for the first time.
Relationships are built on effective and honest communication. Some people believe a healthy couple needs to talk to one another for at least ninety minutes daily. We need to know where each other is at and thinking.
We have also witnessed how people use communication to abuse and mislead others. Sometimes hurtful words linger longer than we know. We use communication as a form of control and manipulation. When we use words to affirm and build one another up, we experience hope, joy, and encouragement.
Sometimes I wonder about the difference between the first and the last words we speak in life. Parents are overjoyed by hearing the first word from their kids. Children will remember their parents' last words.
We can use words to create or destroy, bring hope or despair. Words can bring either confusion or clarity. We are accountable for our words. What would be the first word in your mind when you get up and the last word before your bed tiime today?
Proverbs 11:9
"Evil words destroy; Godly skill rebuilds."
Proverbs 11:17
"Your own soul is nourished when you are kind; it is destroyed when you are cruel."
Proverbs 15: 1
"A gentle answer quiets anger, but a harsh one stirs it up."
