Sept 9th, 2022: Setting Priorities

A young man sat across my desk and told me he did't make enough money.

He lighted his cigarette then, puff after puff without any worry.

He talked about his need for a new vehicle.

I tried to listen to understand because his thoughts were in a circle.

He then went on to tell me how unfair we have to pay taxes.

I let him go on before I could share with him some facts.

I asked him how many cigarettes he smokes a day.

Fifteen or so, he said.

His eyes told me he realized what I was about to reveal.

What he pays for his smoke could buy him another set of wheels.

I then asked him how much he pays for taxes with his smoky habit.

More than half of that is his contribution to our government gamut.

Setting priorities is challenging for many people.

God will take a back seat when we are not settled.

We define our life values by what we do not own.

We fail to appreciate the love of God that has been shown.

Our hearts are discontent, and our spirits are testing.

God is so far away, and our thoughts are revolting.

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." - Romans 12: 2
