Aug 28th, 2022: Unwise Decisions

The reaction concerning the dismissal of Lisa Laflamme reveals various troubling aspects of our society. We expect some of them, and some reflect a sad reality of our time.

A) A professional sports team would not let their marquee players go without trying to negotiate for the best compensation from another team. Bell Media executives decided to fire Lisa Laflamme while she was on the top of the rating chart is incomprehensible. It was a business decision as they tried to explain without any facts. If Bell Media cannot present any factual reasons for this decision, why should we trust them with their news reporting in the future?

B) Taking advantage of a decision without honesty has been the aftermath of this unfortunate news. Many brands have decided to go gray to show support for Lisa Laflamme. Even the Wendy girl now has grey hair. We witness an example of how superficial and non-thoughtful our society has become. We make an assumption about an event, and then many have jumped on the bandwagon.

C) What can we conclude? We lie to get our way, and we don't have to be accountable for our lies. We pretend we know the truth by embracing a lie, and then we carry that lie further. In the end, truth has become the only casualty. It would be better if Bell Media executives came clean about the real reasons behind their decision. People may disagree with them, but at least it is truthful. Christians know this well as well. When we don't have the courage to present the truth of the Gospel, we lose our voice, and then there is no truth within us.
