June 5th, 2022: Life Disappointment

It was an uncomfortable flight home for me on Saturday. The flight was completely full, and the plane was small and old. It was not with a discount airline. It was our well-known national airline. A young man asked me whether I could help him because of his injury. He had damaged his right leg, and his seat was next to mine.

A football team just released him from training camp due to his injury. I asked him how serious is his injury. He quietly told me that it was severe enough to be sent home. It was not the first time I encountered someone in this situation, so I let him be.

When the flight attendant came and asked us about drinks, I offered to buy him a beer, and he accepted. After a few minutes, he told me that he was devastated because he was hopeful about making the roster. He felt good and competed well. He was hit awkwardly and hurt his right leg. Speed is crucial for the position he plays.

I shared with him that I have a job that has to deal with people's lives' disappointment daily. As a Christian, I also learn that sometimes the world offers us little comfort when we go through that. Many people have discovered the power of prayer and the importance of solitude while dealing with life disappointments. In prayers, we learn that we are not alone. In solitude, we are secure in the presence of God. Surprisingly, he listened attentively. He repeated the key points: quiet prayer and solitude.

The flight was short, and I helped him get off the plane. He was able to get help upon arrival to make his transfer to his next flight. I hope he will let me know how he is doing. The plane was small, but God's plan for our life is not.

Psalm 42: 11

"Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God."
