June 10th, 2022: Truth vs Misinformation
Sometimes it takes incredible strength to be humble. Humility is our ability not to take ourselves so seriously. When we allow ourselves to be in the center of attention, pride and arrogance will take place. The disciples of Jesus wanted to make a big deal about Him. He always referred to the Father instead.
We live in a world where marketing has played a critical role in whatever we do and whoever we are. We face the temptation to make ourselves better than any other while competing for the attention of the world. Truth tends to be the casualty of that approach. Sometimes it is not just about telling lies. It has to do with our own fabrication of reality. We have seen this practice with mainstream news outlets, business, and non-profit organizations' communication and regular human relationships.
Many people have used the word "misinformation" often these days. The problem we have is that it came out of the mouth of the mouths of politicians who lie to their people daily. When we use that word as a weapon in propaganda, then we misuse the word. Truth is more than just mere information. It requires tremendous discernment and courage while responding to what we witness.
What would be the truth in dealing with politicians using their elected power for personal gains?
What would be the truth in dealing with double standard behaviors from religious leaders?
What would be the truth in preaching the compassionate love of God when being unmerciful towards our own family?
What would be the truth when we are ashamed of what is true and give ourselves to what is popular?
Lying tongues are of the proud. Humility represents the truth.
Proverbs 12: 19
"Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment."
