May 30th, 2022: God is Our Refuge

Psalm 91: 1-2

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Shelter means a lot for many refugees from Ukraine today. They just need a place to rest their heads, be fed, and feel protected.

What is God's shelter? It is the place where we have no need for answers. We do not have to worry about tomorrow and be anxious about today. It is the shelter that protects us from our worst selves. It is where we finally can be at peace with ourselves. It is the moment when we feel alive.

Resting in God's shadow is an act of faith. After Covid-19 shut down, many of us feel the uneasiness of life. Nothing seems to be certain except bad news. When we believe that God was with us at the beginning of time and will be with us at the end, we will find our needed rest that nothing can buy. Today is our existence within the context of His care.

Being in God's refuge is to have the opportunity to rediscover the meaning of being created in His image. It is like a baby in his mother's womb. It is his ultimate refuge. He depends on her for everything during the process of being created. As we seek refuge in God, He restores our souls, transforms our minds, and cares for our bodies. He will lift up our spirit, and we experience the meaning of being one with Him in the shadow of His fortress. We are secure and loved.
