April 7th, 2022: Be Attentive to Wisdom
Proverbs 2: 2-5
"Making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God."
"I just don't understand" is what we usually hear from people when they encounter unexpected events or challenges in their lives. Our desire to seek understanding is part of how God created us.
Sometimes it is harder to seek understanding for what is going on within our hearts than what is happening outside us. We have to encounter our fears and our discomfort by doing so. Our compromise with the world standard is due to our fears.
What is hidden in our hearts and minds can be so destructive that we would prefer to run away from ourselves than stay and face the truth. Many people have attempted to do so by using a substance and other forms of self-destructive pleasure. When we deny the freedom to acknowledge our broken condition, we also rob ourselves of an opportunity to experience God's grace more deeply.
"How did I get here?" is another question people ask when they find themselves at the bottom of life's barrel. We ask that type of question because we are scared to claim our personal responsibilities. We act as if we want answers, but we prefer not knowing at times. Sometimes it is more than a statement of surprise. It might be how to express our regrets.
