April 24th, 2022: Guard Our Hearts

"I am scared when I think about what happens to my daughter if I die."
A single mom confided with me last week as she expressed her ire.

Her doctor tells her that she has cancer; she needs her treatment as soon as possible.
She was overwhelmed by the news and found it inconceivable.

She might have made some mistakes in her life.
But she is a good mom and takes things in stride.

We talked about events of life in her past.
Many relationships, rejection, hope, disappointment, and betrayal; Her life has gone by so fast.

One lesson in life seems to stand out.
Learning to respect and cherish whom she is and what she is about.

She has been working hard to provide a life for her daughter.
Successes and failures won't make her waiver.

Her faith in God is not superficial.
She believes, but she still works on her self-denial.

Loving God for her is a daily lesson.
She does not take anything for granted as she learns more about her life tension.

God is so close and so far at the same time.
She learns how to embrace the moment while knowing that she does not always abide.

She asked me to pray so that her heart could rest.
Too much is going on in her mind, and she begins to compress.

Now it is my turn to struggle.
Why has life been so challenging for her? She does not needs this hassle.

Philippians 4: 6-7

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
